Well, if this wasn't explained to you yet, we're always mining. If you don't want to join in, that's fine, do whatever you want, PVP, run missions, explore. But, when you're ready, let us know, and join one of our mining crews (if nothing else, as long as Michaelus Innocenti is online, he's probably mining somewhere, and you can get in on that.)
A few miners working together, with someone trained in the mining foreman, and with a hauler bringing ore to a station are a lot more productive then a single person trying to mine alone. Also, less of a target for ore thieves, since there's never any ore sitting around in cans
